Officials of the Nangarhar Custom House (NCH) say that compared to previous years their income has increased due to the export and import of goods.
Ehsanullah Kamawal, Head of the NCH in an interview told Radio Sada-e-Azadi that their daily income has increased, and added, "The NCH is operating with modern and international standardized equipments and laws.
There is transparency and we try our best to provide our traders with additional facilities. Our effort is to have ordinary budget from our incomes and the payment will done in a very clear and proper way”.
Over 250 trucks pass daily the Turkham port to Afghanistan and Pakistan, loaded with 70 percent of construction materials.
The NCH was instructed to have 7 Billion AFs income, but in recent few months our income shows 1 Billion AFs additional increase. Extra offices, rooms and other facilities have been provided to encourage and exceed business activities. In the past the businessmen needed to do their documentation in different offices, but now there is need for three signatures only, said Kamawal. Mohammad Qasem Yousuf, the representative of the Afghanistan Chamber of commerce uttered that import is more that export. The Finance Ministry has allowed us to charge 1 percent fee on 30 types of goods, such as plastic and other chemicals, utilized by factories inside the country.
The businessmen are happy for providing such facilities, and said, "The hours work could be done in minutes now. There is no problem like we had in the past. The income process is according to the law and every employee is acting accordingly". Last year the NCH was given 4 Billion and 200 Millions of AFs objective, but it had 4 Billion and 600 Millions of AFs income, and this year NCH officials hope to have 8 Billions of income rather than 7 Billions of AFs.
