International Transit:

Afghanistan provides the connecting route for the landlocked countries of central Asia to the sea ports of the Arabian Sea and Persian Gulf. The North-South road corridors, connecting Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan, to the ports of Karachi, Port Qasim and Gawadar, and the East-West Corridor connecting these central Asian states through Afghanistan and Iran to the ports of Chabahar and Bandar Abbas are historically major trade routes. Successful customs reforms and application of customs procedures based on international standards and practices will be critical for the enhancement of regional trade and commerce.
