Oath of Integrity

The Oath of Integrity is a promise that I will stand for excellence, honesty, integrity, accountability and professionalism. I will not wilfully mislead, or otherwise seek to make personal gain out of my professional service. I understand and respect the mission, vision and values and ethics of Afghan Customs Department and strive in my professional life to live and work by them.

Mission:

• To protect fiscal revenues

• To promote lawful international trade and travel

• To prevent illegal and dangerous goods and substances harmful to social safety, human life and the environment from entering our borders

Vision:

• To build a world class customs service

Ethics:

• I will strive to act with honesty and integrity, consistency and diligence,

• I will respect the rights and dignity of all people,

• I will oppose all forms of corruption and will not offer or accept bribes or other favours, and

• I will take responsibility for my actions.

I will adopt and abide by the following principles:

• I will not bring Afghan Customs Department into disrepute by my actions or behaviour;

• I will not fabricate, falsify or misrepresent information;

• I will strive to be impartial objective, unbiased and truthful in all aspects of my work;

• I will act in a professional manner, obey the law, avoid conflicts of interest, and put the interests of clients ahead of my own;

• I will keep a consistency of actions and principles when applying rules, charges, taxes or tariffs;

• I will base all my actions on the internally-consistent framework of ACD principles and practices;

• I will accept responsibility and be answerable to my clients and colleagues;

• I will strive not to make mistakes and to act with due diligence;

• I will report incidences of illegal or unethical behaviour through the appropriate channels;

• I will do all in my power to ensure that my personal and professional actions do not unnecessarily put at risk the health, safety or welfare of any person or the environment.

As a professional and conscious individual, I am responsible for my own actions. I am bound by my word and promise and I agree to govern my activities by this Oath of Integrity.
